Product Description:
The original Bible for School and Home Series was an eight volume set, authored by Anglican theologian, John Paterson Smyth, and written at the turn of the 20th century. They were intended for parents and teachers to use in preparing Bible lessons for the children in their care. These teacher guides, produced by Lauren Fee at The Children's Feast, express many of Paterson Smyth's ideas, but in a new form, intended for the modern parent, Bible teacher, or kids ministry volunteer. This series was previously used in Charlotte Mason's schools and these new guides follow her method of teaching Bible lessons which begins by helping the teacher and children talk a little about the last lesson and smoothly transitions to the text by building anticipation for what will be covered in the new lesson. The passage is then given to be read aloud, both beautifully and reverently, and then narrated by the children. For each lesson, Paterson Smyth's helpful background information, vivid descriptions, and carefully framed questions have been modified to a question and answer format, intended not for the teacher to read verbatim, but as notes to aid in facilitating a good discussion with the children after the text has been read and narrated. All questions are cited appropriately to Paterson Smyth's original published text. He also included several "Lecture to the Teacher" sections in his books which provided fuller commentary for teaching specific lessons. Shortened summaries of these lectures, entitled "Guiding Thoughts" have also been provided at the top of the corresponding lessons for further preparation on the educator's part.
